I am not telling people not to eat/buy there. TLDR: Two major asian groceries in metro detroit run by new religion cultīrother. Regardless, just thought the community should know and be aware, especially since it seems like this org is growing in influence in the states! Being asian myself, i especially struggle due to a desire to support local asian run businesses. On the other hand, want to support local businesses and the employees who work here who may not be involved with the church. I'm not sure how to feel ab this on one hand, I definitely see concern in patronizing a business that is owned by what many consider to be a cult. Its recently come to global attention due to its implication in the murder of Japanese former PM Shinzo Abe(basically killer's family was coerced into donating entire savings to the church).Īfter doing some background research, found that both Noble Fish in Troy and One World Market in Novi are owned by True World Foods, a NJ based company that sources sushi grade fish across the states, and is basically the business wing of the Unification Church. Not sure how familiar everyone is with the Unification Church, its a new religion movement w strong following in S Korea and Japan, but growing presence in the states. Just moved to the area this year, and have been looking for authentic sushi/sashimi.
